We are seeking an experienced Grid Connection Consultant to support the delivery and completion of a 132kV substation project currently - 70% constructed. The role will focus on grid connection due diligence, project delivery oversight, and stakeholder coordination, ensuring the project progresses safely through final construction, commissioning and energisation. The successful candidate will have strong experience delivering HV substation or grid connection projects in the UK, working with DNOs, ICPs and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery
- Oversee completion of a 132kV substation project currently under construction
- Coordinate engineering, construction and commissioning activities
- Manage project schedule, risks and delivery milestones
- Ensure readiness for energisation and grid connection
- Grid Connection & Due Diligence
- Lead grid connection due diligence
- Review connection agreements and technical requirements
- Interface with DNO / transmission operators
- Ensure compliance with G99 and grid connection requirements
- Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with local authorities, planning bodies and regulatory stakeholders
- Coordinate between EPC contractors, consultants and client teams
- Manage communications with network operators and land stakeholders
- Technical Oversight
- Review substation design, equipment and protection systems
- Support testing & commissioning activities
- Ensure compliance with UK power network standards
- Governance & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with CDM Regulations
- Monitor HSE performance and site safety
- Manage project documentation and reporting
Required Experience
Essential
- 8-15+ years experience in power infrastructure projects
- Proven delivery of HV substations (66kV / 132kV / 275kV)
- Experience working with UK DNOs or National Grid
- Experience delivering projects through construction, commissioning and energisation
- Strong knowledge of grid connection processes in the UK
- Experience liaising with local authorities and key stakeholders
Desirable
- Experience with renewable energy grid connections
- Experience working with ICP or EPC contractors
- Understanding of contestable vs non-contestable works
