Join our growing team and make a difference when it matters most.

Are you an experienced veterinary surgeon looking to develop your emergency and critical care skills within a supportive, multidisciplinary referral hospital? At Wear Referrals, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a highly skilled team of specialists, diplomates and residency-trained clinicians, caring for a varied and rewarding caseload in a collaborative 24/7 hospital environment.

We're looking for a motivated and compassionate Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join our established and expanding team, providing exceptional care to our referral in-patients and supporting local primary care practices that rely on Wear Referrals for their out-of-hours service.

A rota designed around you

Our night rota follows a four nights on, eight nights off pattern, offering substantial blocks of time away from work to support a healthy work-life balance.

Some additional make-up shifts are needed to bring working hours up to a full-time equivalent. Some annual leave is allocated to ensure the rota works effectively, while the remaining holiday allowance can be booked separately.

We're open to discussing full-time and part-time opportunities, including weekend day and night shift arrangements.

The role

You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality out-of-hours care across our busy referral hospital, managing a diverse caseload and working closely with colleagues across multiple clinical disciplines.

You'll be supported by a dedicated and experienced OOH team, including multiple Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) on every shift. Shifts also benefit from intern backshift support, while our referral surgeons and clinicians provide additional on-call support. Weekend shifts also benefit from intern backshift support, while our referral surgeons and clinicians provide additional on-call support, both in person and by telephone.

This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your clinical experience, develop your confidence managing complex cases and become part of a team that values collaboration, evidence-based medicine and continuous learning.

Who we're looking for

This role would suit an experienced primary care veterinary surgeon who is keen to gain experience in a large, 24/7 referral hospital and work with a complex and varied caseload.

You'll be highly motivated, proactive and passionate about delivering clinical excellence, with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

An Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) certificate would be advantageous, but it isn't essential. We're committed to supporting professional development and would fully support the successful candidate in undertaking a certificate or further ECC studies.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys learning, values teamwork and wants to make a positive difference to patients, clients and colleagues.
