Overview: Lead RVN Wards will assist with the efficient and effective leadership of the ward team, ensuring high standards of patient care while supporting the development of nursing staff.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain an overview of the wards department and patient care, identifying staffing and patient risks and making decisions to address them.
- Collaborate with the wider nursing leadership team to promote positive inter‑team relationships and serve as a point of contact for wards.
- Demonstrate excellent work ethic in all inpatient nursing duties, delivering high standards with a systematic, holistic approach to patient care.
- Provide practical training, support and leadership to ward staff and other associates as required.
- Promote effective communication within the wards and wider clinical teams, ensuring accurate treatment plans, information transfer and thorough handovers.
- Serve as a role model for professional behaviours, fostering a positive workplace culture and being approachable for associates.
- Ensure staff are clear on their roles, objectives and receive support with training plans, CPD and mentoring.
- Take responsibility for the management of isolation cases, supporting staff on infectious and zoonotic disease protocols and barrier nursing.
- Promote infection control initiatives and maintain hygiene standards to minimise nosocomial infections.
- Support new nurse induction and positive onboarding experiences.
- Complete Performance Development Reviews, Return to Work and other meetings for assigned associates.
- Assist with patient welfare initiatives and the use of Halo reporting to support a blame‑free culture.
- Support the creation and implementation of new SOPs as required.
- Collaborate with leadership, purchasing and maintenance teams for stock management and equipment availability.
- Participate in leadership, practice and clinical team meetings to stay informed and engage the team.
- Comply with Health and Safety, GDPR and all relevant compliance policies.
- Be accountable for tasks delegated by Team Leaders or HoNS, delegating appropriately.
Person Specification: This role is suited to an experienced RVN seeking progression into leadership, although applicants new to leadership or with prior experience will also be considered. Referral wards nursing experience is not essential but desirable. Key attributes include calmness under pressure, initiative, problem‑solving capability, and excellent communication skills.
