Daytime Patient Care Assistant (PCA)

Shifts
8 hour shifts Monday‑Friday (6.30am–2.30pm or 10.30am–6.30pm) with weekend batches, bank holiday rota and rest days following weekends.
As a wards‑based Patient Care Assistant, you will be involved in all aspects of the care of our canine and feline patients, from admission to discharge, including basic animal husbandry, supporting patients during specialist veterinary procedures and administering oral medications.
You will also ensure the cleanliness and stock levels within the wards are maintained, following infection control protocols to create a safe and comfortable environment for the patients.
Job Purpose
To ensure the highest level of patient care is provided, demonstrate professional behaviours and a committed approach to tasks, maintain a clean and hygienic clinical environment, work and communicate effectively with clients and associates, and work under the direction of Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses on housekeeping and husbandry duties while following Standard Operating Procedures.
Key Responsibilities

- Carry out housekeeping and husbandry duties under direction of Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures for clinical tasks, patient restraint, waste disposal, infection control, and health and safety policies.
- What we’re looking for

- Physical, mental and emotional stamina to work with sick animals.
- Ability to cope with a fast‑paced working environment.
- Highly motivated team player.
- Passion and drive for delivering outstanding care for clients and their pets.
- Desire to build a career with in‑house training and, if desired, progression to Student Veterinary Nurse or other roles.
- Basic knowledge of animal care and handling is beneficial (but not required).
- PCA experience is not necessary.
- Must be over 18 years old.
