We are recruiting a KS1 and Lower KS2 Teacher to work in our specialist SEND school, Lavender Lodge, in South London. Successful candidates will be considered for either phase, depending on experience and school needs. The role involves teaching children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and a range of additional needs including ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory issues and associated behavioural difficulties.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and support pupils aged 4 to 11, with a primary focus on autistic pupils and pupils who are non‑verbal.
  • Use a variety of communication methods (Makaton, picture display symbols, PECs, PODD, etc.) to reach 70 % of pupils who are non‑verbal.
  • Deliver a bespoke, accessible curriculum and think creatively to deliver lessons that meet the diverse needs of the pupils.
  • Collaborate with in‑house psychologists, teaching assistants and therapy professionals to provide a holistic learning experience.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture and support pupils’ overall development and self‑esteem.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and prior teaching experience in a primary setting.
  • Previous experience working with autistic pupils and pupils with significant communication needs.
  • Knowledge of autism strategies such as TEACCH, attention autism, and experience applying these in practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of pupils and stakeholders.
  • Flexible, resilient, and committed to the welfare of all pupils.
