Role:
In the role of Mould Tool Designer you will be responsible for mould designs for both prototype & production tooling projects. You will provide sound technical advice on mould design best practice founded on experience and when appropriate conducted research. You will conduct effective mould design handovers to stakeholders and continue to support any queries throughout the full life cycle of the project. Ensure all customers experience a reliable service in line with promises made for lead times, working collaboratively with all stakeholders. Regularly communicate the mould design status; and elevate any deviations to timelines, design cost or specification immediately. Deliver allocated prototype or production mould design projects in line with mould design KPI measures of on time & on budget. Fully log and track all hours worked and submit weekly for monthly financial reporting and tool cost analysis. Responsible for effective liaison with suppliers, or potential suppliers to specify bolster, manifold & ancillary components; ensuring external parts manufactured are supplied to the correct specification. Responsible for sending BOM of all tooling projects to suppliers and receiving quotes for required bolster, manifold and ancillary items. Responsible for accurately maintaining mould design CAD & engineering documentation within all required data management systems. Apply sound mould design engineering principles to optimise projects for manufacture, reliability & ease of maintenance. To work in collaboration with other stakeholders to use sound design knowledge to contribute to the improvement of any tooling related issues for us, and also for our global partners when required. Utilise full functionality of CAD software to ensure designs are modelled to highest technical standards. Preparing 2D layouts in AutoCAD where required, plus full 3D designs and 2D detail drawings in Creo design software. Attention to detail, working to tight limits & fits, ensuring agreed tooling standard tolerance control on all designed components. Creating and ensuring the accuracy of bill of materials (BOM) & steel sizes released for manufacture, in agreed formats for ease of purchasing (Supplier specific for example). Proactively identify areas for continuous improvement within the tooling and tool design functions & support the implementation of agreed changes. Support all internal and external stakeholders when agreed with tooling Manager, to ensure allocated tooling projects are completed, regularly communicated & managed effectively. Be fully engaged with UK Tooling team to engrain an enthusiastic and positive attitude towards all potential new technological advances, challenging part geometry and breakthrough in material optimisation and usage.
Experience Requirements:
- Industry recognised tooling design / engineering qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience within mould tool design
- Strong tooling design knowledge with familiarity of plastic injection mould tooling or similar
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software with CREO experience an advantage
- Positive attitude with flexibility in approach to design work and continuous improvement
- Ability to organize own work schedule
- Strong communication skills with confidence to communicate with stakeholders when required
- Project management
- Eagerness to learn new skills and processes with hunger to investigate new technologies
- Excellent knowledge of basic computer programmes such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Project
