Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Early Years Practitioner role based in the City of Edinburgh. The Early Years Practitioner will support the planning and delivery of age-appropriate learning experiences that promote children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Responsibilities include supervising and engaging with children in daily activities, setting up and maintaining stimulating play and learning environments, and contributing to observations, assessments, and learning records. The role involves working closely with colleagues to implement nursery policies and curriculum guidance, ensuring high standards of safeguarding, hygiene, and health and safety at all times. The practitioner will also build positive relationships with parents and carers, sharing information about each child’s progress and supporting smooth transitions.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and experience working with children aged 0–5 years.
  • Creativity skills to plan and deliver engaging play-based and learning activities.
  • Organization skills to manage daily routines, documentation, and a safe learning environment.
  • Relevant early years or childcare qualification (e.g., SVQ, HNC, or equivalent) or working towards one.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety requirements in early years settings.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, respond calmly to changing needs, and follow nursery policies and procedures.
  • First Aid, Food Hygiene, or additional early years training is an advantage.
