This is not a job for someone who wants to simply keep the workshop ticking over. You'll take ownership of people, production, quality, safety, deadlines, and materials.
We’re working with an established bespoke joinery business delivering high-value projects, and they’re looking for a Production Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the workshop. The objective is simple: Get the right work built, to the right standard, on time and within budget.
Your role:
- Take control of workshop operations, ensuring production is properly planned, people are performing, quality is maintained, and client deadlines are met.
- Plan and schedule workshop production through the company ERP system.
- Ensure projects are delivered within agreed hours and materials budgets.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping.
- Monitor quality and manage performance across the workshop.
- Review drawings and cutting lists before work reaches production.
- Provide joinery expertise and solve problems on the shop floor.
- Manage Goods In and Goods Out, including stock, packing, storage, and delivery planning.
- Control stock in line with FSC requirements.
- Ensure machinery, FLTs, and tools are properly maintained.
- Manage timekeeping, absence, training, inductions, and performance.
- Develop apprentices and help build the next generation of skilled joiners.
- Work closely with the wider management team to identify and implement workshop improvements.
- Support recruitment of apprentices, joiners, and general operatives.
Who are we looking for?
You need strong joinery knowledge and genuine workshop experience. But technical ability alone won’t be enough. You’ll need to be comfortable leading people, making decisions, and taking ownership when something isn’t going to plan. You should be the sort of manager who spots a problem before it becomes a missed deadline. Someone who can walk onto the shop floor, understand what’s happening, challenge poor standards, support the team, and keep production moving. And when there’s an opportunity to improve the way the workshop operates, you’ll be expected to make it happen, not just talk about it.
The opportunity:
This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of a busy bespoke joinery operation and have a visible impact on production, people, quality, and delivery. If you’re already a Production Manager, Workshop Manager, Senior Joiner, or experienced Joinery professional ready to take the next step, I’d be interested in speaking with you.
