Most design roles ask you to maintain. This one asks you to build. If you're the engineer people rely on when the drawings have to work first time, when fabrication needs to run smoothly, and when everyone else is looking for answers, keep reading.

I'm working exclusively on behalf of a well-established engineering business that's continuing to invest in its design capability. They're looking for a Senior Design Engineer who understands structural steel, enjoys solving real engineering problems, and knows how to turn concepts into buildable solutions.

This isn't a role where you'll disappear into a corner producing drawings all day. You'll work closely with project teams, influence technical decisions, collaborate with fabrication and installation teams, and take ownership of projects from concept through to manufacture.

What you'll be doing:

  • Producing detailed structural steel designs and fabrication models.
  • Creating accurate 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Advanced Steel.
  • Working alongside project managers, estimators and production teams to ensure designs are practical and commercially viable.
  • Reviewing technical specifications and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate.
  • Solving engineering challenges before they become site problems.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience designing structural steel or steelwork projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Advanced Steel (this is essential).
  • Experience producing fabrication drawings and 3D models.
  • Understanding of structural engineering principles and UK design standards.
  • The confidence to manage your own workload and communicate with multiple stakeholders.

What's in it for you?

  • Comprehensive Salary
  • Hybrid working (minimum one day per week in the Ashford office)
  • Genuine autonomy and responsibility
  • Interesting engineering projects with real variety
  • Supportive, experienced technical team
  • Long-term career development with a growing business

If you're currently designing steel structures and Advanced Steel is already part of your toolkit, I'd like to speak with you. Apply today or get in touch for a confidential conversation.
