Overview

Linkilaw Solicitors is a UK-regulated boutique law firm seeking a commercially astute, detail-oriented Fractional Financial Manager / Controller to provide strategic financial oversight and operational financial management on a part‑time basis (approximately one day per week). The successful candidate must have strong experience within the UK regulatory and tax framework. This role is designed for a hands‑on, mid‑career finance professional who enjoys working closely with founders/partners, improving financial visibility, and supporting sound commercial decision‑making in a professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain robust monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs
  • Provide cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis
  • Monitor revenue, margins, WIP, lock‑up, and profitability by matter/fee earner
  • Deliver variance analysis and financial insights to senior leadership

Strategic Financial Management

  • Support annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
  • Provide financial modelling and scenario planning
  • Advise partners on pricing strategy, fee structures, and profitability
  • Identify cost efficiencies and operational improvements

Regulatory & Client Money Oversight

  • Oversee financial controls in line with:
    • Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules
    • Client Money Framework (CMF) requirements
  • Liaise with the firm’s COFA (Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration)
  • Ensure internal financial controls are robust and documented
  • Provide oversight regarding:
    • VAT (including partial exemption where relevant)
    • Corporation tax planning considerations
    • PAYE and dividend strategy (where applicable)
  • Ensure financial decisions align with UK tax regulations

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Assess and optimise financial systems and reporting workflows
  • Improve financial visibility and KPI tracking
  • Support implementation of financial dashboards if needed

Candidate Profile

  • UK-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent experience)
  • Experience within SMEs or professional services
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fractional capacity
  • Commercially minded, pragmatic and solutions-oriented
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling capability
  • Prior law firm experience is helpful but not required. We are looking for someone practical, proportionate, and commercially aware rather than highly technical or compliance-driven.
