A leading player in the UK rail infrastructure sector, delivering high profile projects across depots, OLE, maintenance and enhancement works for major clients including Network Rail is looking to grow further and therefore appoint a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis, based from their Wednesbury site. This is a hands on, site based role (4 days on site, 1 day from home) suited to a commercially astute QS who is comfortable taking ownership, working autonomously, and becoming a key part of a close knit delivery team.
The Role
- You will be responsible for the commercial management of 3 - 4 live projects, which may include depot works, OLE, and rail infrastructure schemes.
- The position offers real autonomy and exposure, with involvement from early cost planning through to final account.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full commercial management of multiple projects from start to finish
- Accurate cost control, forecasting and reporting
- Preparation and submission of applications for payment and final accounts
- Managing variations, change control and compensation events
- Pricing tenders and smaller works packages
- Procurement and management of subcontractor accounts
- Working closely with site teams, project managers and wider commercial functions
- Ensuring commercial processes are followed while proactively identifying risk and opportunity
About You
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- 5+ years' experience in a Quantity Surveyor role (QS or Senior QS level considered)
- Background in Rail or Civil Engineering projects
- Network Rail experience is advantageous but not essential
- Confident working independently without the need for hand holding
- Proactive, commercially aware and solutions focused
- Positive attitude with the ability to integrate well within a site based team
