About Vulcain Engineering: Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients' most complex challenges. In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).

The role of UK IT Manager is to manage and deliver IT (Information Technology) across all UK entities for the Vulcain Engineering Group, including the integration of new entities as they join the organisation. Acting as the UK focal point for all IT activity, the role ensures that Group policies, practices and initiatives are implemented effectively and that all businesses receive a reliable, secure and cost‐effective service.

The IT Manager will oversee all UK‐based IT components, including Group solutions delivered by our Paris IT team, shared UK solutions used across all entities, and entity‐specific systems selected to meet local needs. This includes supporting rollouts, managing updates, ensuring cohesion between local, UK and Group systems, and helping entities work effectively with their chosen IT suppliers.

Some of the main responsibilities of the IT Manager will include:

  • Serve as a member of the Group IT Committee, ensuring effective escalation and communication between the committee and all UK entities.
  • Lead IT alignment across UK entities, ensuring services meet business needs while working within agreed budget targets.
  • Hold overall responsibility for UK IT systems, resources, suppliers and daily operational performance to ensure continuous availability of business‐critical services.
  • Lead the UK IT coordination meeting and maintain close alignment with Group IT on priorities, standards and ongoing initiatives.
  • Design and deliver the UK IT strategy, ensuring alignment with both UK business goals and Group IT strategy.
  • Manage UK IT suppliers and procurement activities, driving efficiencies and identifying synergies across the UK and wider Group.
  • Support the deployment and adoption of Group IT solutions within UK entities, ensuring successful rollout and user engagement.
  • Oversee IT security compliance across the UK, enforcing Group IT Security Policy and Charter, maintaining mandatory accreditations (e.g. Cyber Essentials+), and supporting industry‐specific requirements in Defence and Nuclear.
  • Manage UK IT budgets, implement cost‐efficiency measures, evaluate IT‐related risks, and work with the Group CTO on network security and resilience.
  • Improve the user experience for all staff (office, home and remote), ensuring effective support and resolution of emerging IT issues.

Preferred Profile: Alongside a commitment to our values, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following essential skills and experience:

  • Strong leadership skills, with experience bringing stakeholders on board and building trust across teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex systems in simple terms.
  • Ability to understand complex information, actively listen, think critically and challenge assumptions to avoid complacency.
  • Results‐driven, personally accountable and able to deliver both individually and through others.
  • Proven experience working within a multinational, multi‐site and/or fast‐growing organisation.
  • Experience managing IT suppliers and delivering business‐focused IT solutions, ideally within engineering or consultancy environments.
  • Flexible, culturally aware and able to work effectively within multinational and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer & Information Systems or equivalent.

The following would be advantageous, but are not essential:

  • Experience supporting remote workers and managing systems that handle official data.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Azure stack.
  • French language skills.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
