The role: Technical Support Engineer – Linux Web Hosting EnvironmentLocation: Near Preston, LancashireSalary: £28,000 to £31,000 basic + benefitsShift Options: Either – Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm – fully onsite (non-negotiable) OR Monday to Friday, 4pm to midnight – remote after initial training period onsite.Please note: You must already live within commuting distance of Preston, Lancashire. There is no relocation or sponsorship available. My client cannot consider candidates needing to move for this role.The Opportunity:I\’m recruiting an experienced Technical Support Engineer with solid Linux command line skills and hands-on experience in web hosting environments. You’ll need to have relevant exposure to cPanel and a good understanding of web hosting infrastructure. The company is a well-established hosting and cloud services provider, offering a stable, long-term role with full training and support from a friendly technical team.This is not an entry-level position. You’ll need to be confident supporting customers and solving technical issues across shared hosting, DNS, SSL, email services and related systems.What You’ll Be Doing:Providing first and second line support to hosting customers via ticket and phoneTroubleshooting common issues across DNS, email, SSL, domains, backups and websitesHandling cPanel-based support queries and account migrationsAnalysing server logs and monitoring alertsAdvising customers on basic self-management where relevantUpdating documentation and knowledge base contentSupporting abuse ticket handling and basic application-level issuesWhat You’ll Need to Have:Strong experience working in a Linux environment using command line tools; alongside a good understanding of how shared hosting platforms workFamiliarity with DNS, SSL, IPs, email protocols, and basic firewall rulescPanel experience at root/admin levelAbility to manage packages and build/install Linux softwareConfident communication skills, both written and spokenAble to work independently and as part of a small, remote-first teamGood to Have:Bash, PHP or Perl scripting experienceUnderstanding of TCP/IP and basic networkingFamiliarity with virtualisation technologiesDoes this sound like you?Send me your CV and I’ll be in touch.
