Employed directly by the general contractor, this role is pivotal in setting the strategic direction and governance for safe, efficient, and compliant lifting operations. The successful candidate will have a proven background in complex projects within the Construction, oil & gas and data centre sectors and must be flexible to travel as required to support site teams.Key Responsibilities for the Lifting Operations Manager:Develop and implement a Lifting Strategy aligned with operational goals and safety objectives.Establish and roll out a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for rigging and lifting, including a permit-to-lift system for controlling activities across all sites in the UK.Provide technical leadership and final decision-making authority on all critical lifting operations, including Go/No-Go decisions.Deliver internal training programs to enhance rigging and lifting awareness, capability, and compliance across project teams.Advise project teams during pre-construction and planning stages, particularly on crane positioning, site logistics, and methodology to drive schedule and cost efficiencies.Act as the primary subject matter expert (SME) for lifting operations, offering assurance to Group Management regarding the control and competence of activities.Conduct reviews, audits, and investigations related to lifting and rigging operations, driving continuous improvement and learning.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, legislation, and best practices related to heavy lifting and rigging.Requirements for the Lifting Operations Manager:Minimum 10 years’ experience in rigging and lifting operations, ideally with a background in general contracting in within Construction oil & gas and data centre projects.Demonstrable experience in the development and enforcement of lifting strategies, SOPs, and permit-to-work systems.Strong knowledge of crane and rigging logistics, including pre-lift planning, risk assessments, and method statement development.Proven ability to lead, influence, and train multidisciplinary teams in high-risk environments.Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout EuropeExcellent communication and leadership skills, with a decisive and pragmatic approach to safety and operational control.Relevant qualifications/certifications in rigging and lifting operations (e.g., LOLER, CPCS, Appointed Person).Our recruitment team will review your CV and, if you meet our criteria, we will reach out to you for an informal discussion.ImportantAs part of our recruitment process, reference checks will be conducted at the job offer stage.
