My client is seeking an Engineering Technician to join a Research & Development team. This role is ideal for someone with strong, hands-on shop-floor experience who is looking to transition into a more engineering-focused support position. If you enjoy solving practical technical problems and want to broaden your engineering skill set, this role offers a clear pathway for development within an innovative R&D environment.

Role responsibilities

As an Engineering Technician, you will work closely with R&D Engineers to support the development, testing, and refinement of new products, as well as the tools and processes used to manufacture them. Your contribution will be vital throughout the product development lifecycle, from early prototypes through to production readiness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assembling and supporting prototype builds
  • Carrying out test activities, measurements, and data collection
  • Performing fault-finding and root-cause investigation on development hardware
  • Providing day-to-day technical support to R&D engineers
  • Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, ensuring smooth transition from prototype to production
  • Feeding back practical, experience-driven insights to improve designs, processes, and manufacturability
  • Recording build, test, and measurement data using Excel

Skills & experience

  • Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience operating and supporting fibre optic equipment
  • Practical experience with fibre fusion splicing and preparation
  • Experience supporting R&D or NPI activities
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a workshop and R&D environment
  • Ability to document work clearly and accurately
