The Junior Process & Mechanical Design Engineer supports the design and delivery of high-specification pharmaceutical and semiconductor manufacturing facilities. Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the role contributes to the development of compliant, robust, and innovative process and mechanical design solutions across all project lifecycle stages from concept design through to commissioning and handover.
This position is ideal for a motivated graduate or early-career engineer seeking to develop strong technical foundations within highly regulated industries such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities- Support the design and delivery of clean utility systems including Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI), Clean Steam, Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), and process gas systems.
- Assist with HVAC and cleanroom design including airflow, filtration, and pressurisation strategies.
- Support mechanical equipment selection and specification including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
- Perform engineering calculations such as pipe sizing, flow analysis, pressure drop calculations, heat transfer, and equipment sizing.
- Assist in the preparation of P&IDs, equipment specifications, functional design specifications (FDS), layouts, and scopes of work.
- Support GMP documentation, validation, commissioning, and acceptance testing activities.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and HAZOP studies.
- Review vendor documentation and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project and regulatory standards.
- Assist with site visits, inspections, startup activities, and operational readiness support.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support project delivery from concept design through commissioning and handover within regulated pharmaceutical and advanced manufacturing environments.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related discipline.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
- Knowledge or interest in pharmaceutical, life sciences, semiconductor, or GMP-regulated environments.
- Exposure to clean utilities, HVAC systems, process engineering, or mechanical design principles.
- Understanding of P&IDs, piping systems, equipment sizing, and engineering calculations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
