Role Overview
Albany Beck is growing its Technology Practice and is seeking multiple Junior Platform Engineers to join a next-generation Platform Engineering team supporting a critical Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) estate within a leading Financial Services environment, based in Sheffield. With the platform approaching end-of-life over the coming years, there is a strong focus on building junior engineering capability to support, maintain, and gradually transition the estate toward modern Kubernetes-based architecture.
Successful candidates will work closely with platform specialists from the vendor ecosystem, gaining hands-on experience in a highly skilled, automation-focused environment. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop DevOps, cloud platform, and Financial Services experience, with a clear pathway into Kubernetes and cloud-native engineering roles longer term.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operation of a critical PCF platform (Tier 0 systems)
- Monitor platform performance, stability, and availability
- Assist in troubleshooting incidents and supporting production issues
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (once fully trained)
- Contribute to automation initiatives to improve platform resilience and reduce manual intervention
- Support implementation of self-healing engineering principles
- Assist in maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
- Work with tools such as Jenkins, Kubernetes, and CI/CD frameworks
- Support scripting and automation using Python or similar languages
- Manage and update tickets through Jira, ensuring accurate tracking and resolution
- Undertake structured training on PCF, DevOps practices, and Financial Services systems
- Work closely with experienced platform specialists to build deep technical knowledge
- Develop skills aligned to modern cloud platforms, particularly Kubernetes
- Contribute to longer-term platform evolution and migration planning
- Gain exposure to containerisation and cloud-native technologies
- Support knowledge transfer and documentation of platform processes
Key Skills & Experience
- 1β3 years' experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, or similar technical role
- Foundational knowledge of cloud, infrastructure, or platform environments
- Experience or exposure to:
- Scripting (Python or similar)
- Automation and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins)
- Containerisation / Kubernetes (preferred but not essential)
- Familiarity with incident management and ticketing tools (e.g. Jira)
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work in a technical, fast-paced environment
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF)
- Experience in Financial Services or regulated environments
- Understanding of infrastructure-as-code or automation frameworks
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix environments
