This is a chance to work on nationally critical defence infrastructure that underpins naval operations across the globe. As Senior Safety Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring complex control systems are safe, compliant and fit for mission-critical deployment.

Role Overview:

  • Location: London, Hybrid (UK-wide travel occasionally required)
  • Package: £60,000 per annum + bonus + benefits + compressed fortnight option
  • Industry: Defence / Engineering / Safety Systems

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading key safety engineering activities — including HAZOPs, FTA, FMECA, LOPA and Functional Failure Analysis
  • Developing and maintaining safety requirements aligned to customer and regulatory standards
  • Producing high-quality documentation for audits, design reviews and stakeholder reporting
  • Providing safety input that shapes critical design decisions across software, hardware and firmware
  • Supporting the development of safety arguments and ALARP justifications
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and external partners
  • Representing the safety team at key internal and external meetings
  • Occasionally visiting customer or subcontractor sites in the UK or abroad

Main Skills Needed:

  • Strong experience in safety engineering within a regulated or defence environment
  • Solid understanding of standards like IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056
  • Skilled in safety analysis techniques such as FTA, FMECA and hazard identification
  • Able to evaluate risks across complex, integrated software and hardware systems
  • Collaborative team player who can operate confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Educated to degree, HND/HNC or Master’s level in engineering or a related safety discipline
  • Eligible for UK SC level security clearance
