We work with Government, Parliament, regulator, international organisations and stakeholders to champion and protect the UK shipping industry on behalf of our members and ensure it remains a global leader.Established in 1878, the UK Chamber of Shipping is at the forefront of maritime policy development within a globally dynamic industry, working to create a safer, more efficient and greener landscape.About the roleThe successful candidate will provide support to the Policy Director responsible for oversight and management of three key sectors of UK Chamber membership, those being:The Offshore Panel, comprising operators working in support of oil and gas production, offshore renewable development and subsea support,The British Tugowners Association (BTA), comprising operators of harbour and terminal tugs providing critical national infrastructure for the safe movement of vessels into and out of the UK’s numerous ports and harbours, as well as vital firefighting and emergency response capability,The British Rig Owners’ Association (BROA), comprising operators of Mobile Offshore Units working globally with UK interests. These MOUs include mobile offshore drilling rigs, accommodation units and construction capabilities for the offshore renewables industry.The successful candidate will also directly inform national statistics by undertaking key surveys on behalf of government departments, including:Quarterly and annual economic surveys of UK Chamber members for the Office for National Statistics (ONS).Seafarer employment surveys for the Department for Transport (DfT).And support production of bespoke economic, market, and trade analysis, to ensure our policy positions are underpinned by robust data and evidence.The role offers a unique opportunity to engage with stakeholders across industry and Government developing, conducting research, creating relationships and build networks.The role will involve some national and occasionally international travel.About YouThis role is ideal for a proactive and intellectually curious individual, who is eager to build a career in policy and analysis. You will be a proactive team player with a keen eye for detail and the ability to turn complex data into compelling insights.Responsibilities of the Policy AdvisorProvide policy and statistical resource to the UK Chamber of Shipping, specifically working with the Offshore Panel, the British Tugowners Association (BTA), and British Rig Owners’ Association (BROA), covering the full spectrum of their work.Provide policy and administrative support to the Offshore Panel, BTA, and BROA, including the organisation of meetings, workshops, and events, preparation of agenda papers and minutes, responding to policy enquiries, and drafting consultation responses.Undertake quarterly and annual surveys of domestic and international revenues and expenditures of UK Chamber members on behalf of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), forming part of National Statistics.Conduct seafarer employment surveys of member companies and other groupings on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT), comprising part of National Statistics.Carry out bespoke economic, market and trade analyses of the UK and global shipping industry to support Chamber objectives, working with colleagues across departments to ensure findings are reflected in policy and communications.Assist in wider policy projects and support as required across the Chamber.Collaborate with colleagues across policy, external affairs, events, and membership to deliver the Chamber’s strategic goals and operational plan.Support member engagement and retention by strengthening the Chamber’s role as the authoritative voice of the UK shipping industry.Requirements of the Policy Advisor & AnalystEssentialA degree or equivalent as a minimum qualification.Strong analytical and statistical skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex economic data clearly.Good written and oral communication skills to explain findings to members and represent their interests effectively to government and other stakeholders.Ability to organise and manage meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and draft consultation responses.DesirableA degree in economics, statistics, shipping or maritime business.Postgraduate qualifications.Experience of working with Government, ONS, DfT or other regulatory/statistical bodies.Detailed knowledge of shipping, towage, or offshore industries.Closing Date: 21 September 2025.
