    • Develop and maintain engineering standards, design methodologies, and quality assurance processes relating to underground cable systems.
    • Provide expert oversight on thermal analysis, route engineering, earthing studies, jointing methodologies, system performance, and asset ratings.
  • Project Delivery
    • Lead and/or review concept, FEED, and detailed designs for major onshore cable projects.
    • Produce and verify cable system design documentation including cable ratings, sheath bonding calculations, trench profiles, fault studies, pulling calculations, and installation methodologies.
    • Undertake or approve technical risk assessments and mitigation strategies during design stages.
    • Provide specialist technical support to construction and commissioning teams, including interpretation of test results and resolution of complex issues.
  • Compliance & Industry Standards
    • Ensure designs comply with UK regulatory, utility and industry standards (e.g., NG ESO/NGED/SSEN requirements, IEC, CENELEC, ENA, Cigre guidelines).
    • Maintain awareness of changes in relevant legislation, specifications, and good practice, advising the company accordingly.
    • Provide expert input into CDM design risk registers and safety‐by‐design principles.
  • Governance & Authorisations
    • Act as, or provide technical support to, the Contractor Design Assurance Engineer (CDAE) or Lead Contractor Design Assurance Engineer (LCDAE) role, where applicable.
    • Guide internal teams on design assurance, technical governance, and project approval processes.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Lead the evaluation and adoption of new cable technologies, materials, and installation techniques.
    • Contribute to research, development, and internal training programs to uplift the organisation's cable engineering capability.
  • Stakeholder & Client Engagement

    • Prepare and deliver high‐quality technical reports, presentations, and design justifications.
    • Support business development through technical bids, scopes, and client advisory services.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive demonstrable experience in the design and analysis of HV/EHV cable systems (DC, 11 kV – 400 kV AC) within the UK electrical infrastructure environment.
  • Demonstrable expertise in cable ratings, thermal modelling, bonding & earthing, system layout, and installation engineering.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex cable projects for Transmission Operators (TOs), Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), ICPs or major EPC contractors.
  • In‐depth understanding of IEC 60287, IEC 60840, IEC 62067, CENELEC standards, ENA TS documents, and TO‐specific specifications.
  • Experience performing or holding the CDAE or LCDAE role for HV/EHV cabling (highly advantageous).
