We are working with University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group to recruit a Band 7 Sonographer to join their Antenatal Ultrasound Service. This is a specialist role within maternity services, offering the opportunity to deliver high-quality obstetric ultrasound care while supporting service development and training within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform and report on obstetric ultrasound scans
  • Produce high-quality diagnostic images in line with departmental protocols
  • Communicate findings sensitively to patients, including complex or distressing outcomes
  • Vet and triage ultrasound referrals in line with clinical guidelines and best practice
  • Refer patients appropriately for further care or specialist input
  • Support and supervise trainee sonographers and multidisciplinary staff
  • Contribute to protocol development, audit, and quality assurance programmes
  • Maintain high standards of professional practice, patient care, and clinical governance

Midwife Sonographers are encouraged to apply, combining ultrasound expertise with holistic, woman-centred care across the maternity pathway.

Essential Requirements

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration or Registered Midwife with appropriate ultrasound qualification
  • Experience in obstetric ultrasound scanning
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively

Desirable

  • Accreditation in nuchal translucency scanning (DQASS)
  • Experience in midwifery-led care (for Midwife Sonographers)
  • Experience supporting training and development of staff
  • Involvement in audit and service development
