We are working with University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group (UHN) to recruit a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Coronary Intervention. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing and collaborative cardiology team, contributing to a growing interventional cardiology service across Northamptonshire.
About the Role
- Deliver a comprehensive general cardiology and interventional service
- Undertake elective and emergency coronary intervention (PCI) procedures
- Participate in a 1:9 general cardiology on-call rota
- Join the countywide 24/7 Primary PCI (PPCI) rota (1:9)
- Provide inpatient care across CCU and cardiology wards
- Contribute to outpatient clinics, MDT meetings, and service development
You will play a key role in supporting the expansion of acute and elective coronary intervention services across the Trust.
The Service
The cardiology service operates across Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital, delivering:
- High-volume PCI service (1,100β1,400 procedures annually)
- Advanced interventional techniques including IVUS, OCT, rotablation, and IVL
- Well-established 24/7 PPCI service across the region
- Dedicated CCU, HDU, and cardiology wards with strong MDT support
This is part of a wider vision to develop a Cardiology Centre of Excellence, focused on innovation, research, and high-quality patient outcomes.
Essential Requirements
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- CCT/CESR in Cardiology (or within 6 months)
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiology
- Independent and confident PCI operator
- Broad experience in general cardiology
Desirable
- Higher degree (MD/PhD)
- Experience in teaching, audit, and research
- Interest in service development and leadership
