Scantec Recruitment is working in partnership with a leading FMCG manufacturing business near Newcastle to recruit a Multi-Skilled Engineer for their weekend engineering team. Production does not run at weekends, so this role is heavily focused on planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and project work. You will be part of a small, close-knit engineering team, supporting the site through scheduled maintenance, improvements and CAPEX activity.

The role is predominantly mechanical, with some basic electrical fault-finding and maintenance required.

Shift Pattern

12-hour day shifts – Saturday & Sunday Plus one additional 12-hour day shift during the week (Flexible, typically Friday or Monday)

You will be responsible for providing engineering and technical support across production lines and ancillary equipment, ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

  • Identify and implement line and process improvements
  • Ensure production lines are safe to operate
  • Plan and carry out preventative maintenance activities
  • Support CAPEX projects from planning through to implementation
  • Contribute to the training and development of line staff and apprentices
  • Set up, adjust and run production lines when required
  • Monitor line efficiency and downtime, contributing to action plans for improvement
  • Carry out mechanical fault finding, repair and replacement
  • Carry out electrical fault finding, repair and replacement within your level of competence
  • Ensure quality controls are followed, with ongoing review of spoilage, isolations and customer complaints
  • Support the implementation of WCP standards
  • Complete daily maintenance tasks including lubrication, cleaning and housekeeping
  • Maintain a safe, tidy working environment at all times

About You

  • Experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer from a fast-paced manufacturing environment (ideally FMCG)
  • Typically 3–5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Strong mechanical and electrical capability
  • Holds relevant engineering qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, HNC or HND (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
