We're looking for an experienced developer to take over and lead the next stage of development for Sober Points, a platform helping people discover sober-friendly venues and experiences. This role will focus primarily on building and scaling our native mobile app, while also supporting the rebuild and ongoing maintenance of the web platform. You'll work directly with the founder, who will lead product direction, UX, feature priorities, and overall vision. We're looking for someone who can not only execute but also contribute technical thinking, advise on architecture, and help shape how AI, gamification, and community growth can be integrated into the platform.

About the Platform

Sober Points is building a global discovery platform for sober-friendly hospitality and experiences. The platform includes:

  • Venue discovery and search
  • Interactive maps
  • User accounts
  • Reviews and community features
  • Gamification and reward mechanics
  • AI-assisted venue/data workflows
  • Admin moderation tools
  • Location-based experiences

We are now shifting toward a city-by-city growth strategy, beginning with London, alongside development of the native app experience.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of native app development
  • Help rebuild and improve the existing web application
  • Collaborate directly with the founder on product direction and feature planning
  • Advise on technical architecture and scalability
  • Research and implement AI integrations and automation workflows
  • Oversee and help develop gamification systems, engagement loops, and reward mechanics within the app
  • Help shape community-focused features and user engagement strategies
  • Support community growth through product thinking, retention features, and user experience improvements
  • Build and maintain APIs and backend integrations
  • Improve platform performance, stability, and UX
  • Help shape the long-term technical roadmap
  • Troubleshoot bugs and maintain production systems

Requirements

  • Strong experience with native app development (React Native preferred)
  • Experience building scalable consumer platforms or marketplace-style apps
  • Experience with maps, geolocation, search, gamification, and user-generated content
  • Full-stack development experience
  • Understanding of backend systems, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience integrating AI tools, APIs, or automation workflows
  • Strong understanding of community-driven products and user engagement
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also taking initiative and ownership
  • Strong communication skills and strategic thinking
