Overall Job Purpose
The Medical Manager Ophthalmology (MM) is responsible for leading Medical Affairs activities in the UK for a branded Ophthalmology product in the post-launch phase. In alignment with the Brand Strategy and medical Plan, the MM works closely with UK Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to drive scientific engagement and ensure high-quality medical support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Initiating and managing clinical research projects.
- Organizing national advisory boards.
- Delivering scientific publications, congress posters, and presentations in collaboration with KOLs.
- Providing medical and scientific education to KOLs and field colleagues through presentations, training, and ongoing scientific support.
- Developing medical content and providing strategic briefings for KOLs attending congresses.
- Partnering closely with the Marketing Manager, offering medical insights and content to support marketing materials and projects while ensuring strict adherence to pharmaceutical industry codes and compliance standards.
Major tasks & responsibilities (70% field):
- Strategic plan development in close collaboration with Marketing and Head Medical Affairs.
- Execution of the Medical Affairs launch strategy plan at country level.
- Mapping and management of KOLs on the disease.
- Developing links with and supporting national networks in the therapeutic area.
- In collaboration with Market Access, ensuring product access and local guidelines.
- Organizing local Advisory Boards (content, objectives, speakers, attendees).
- Local publications and congress posters within the strategy of the product.
- First medical HCP contact at Congresses and symposia.
- Content input, providing medical slide decks, briefing KOLs for congress and symposia presentations, within brand strategy.
- Medical information on requests to HCPs and medical presentations to HCPs within brand strategy.
- Handling Investigator-Initiated trials (IIT): Internal approval and contracting.
- Approval of contracts for external (consultancy/speaker) activities with HCPs.
- Developing medical training decks and giving medical training for commercial colleagues in the field on disease and product.
- Providing medical scientific and strategic input on Marketing projects and materials in collaboration with the Marketing Manager.
- Ensuring all Medical and Marketing projects, materials, and presentations are compliant with pharmaceutical codes.
Education Qualifications:
- Bio-medical (scientific) academic degree.
- Training in the code of Pharmaceutical Compliance rules.
- Presentation and training skills.
Work experience:
- Minimum of five years of Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Ophthalmology network and experience.
- Strategic and operational experience in launch activities.
- Experience in Marketing and/or Commercial function in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Technical skills/job specific competencies:
- Fluent in English.
