At Valcon, we help organisations unlock the full value of data, AI and digital platforms by building scalable, automated cloud foundations. We are looking for a Senior Principal in Cloud Engineering to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale cloud platforms that support modern data, AI and application workloads. This is a senior consulting leadership role responsible for shaping client cloud strategies, designing modern platform architectures and leading complex transformation programmes. You will work with executive stakeholders to modernise legacy infrastructure, establish platform engineering capabilities and enable organisations to deploy and scale digital products at speed. The role combines strategic architecture, transformation leadership and deep cloud engineering expertise, helping clients move from manual infrastructure operations to automated, resilient and scalable cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Advisory & Capability Building
    • Act as a trusted advisor to CIO, CTO and platform leadership teams on cloud platform transformation.
    • Lead architecture workshops and strategic engagements with senior stakeholders.
    • Translate business ambitions for data, AI and digital innovation into scalable cloud architectures.
    • Establish Cloud Engineering Centres of Excellence (CoE) within client organisations.
    • Define operating models, engineering practices and reusable platform components.
    • Support pre-sales activities including proposals, client pitches and solution shaping, bringing technical leadership into the sales cycle.
    • Identify and develop opportunities within client accounts to expand cloud and platform engagements.
  • Cloud Platform Strategy & Architecture
    • Lead large-scale cloud modernisation programmes, transforming legacy infrastructure into automated cloud-native platforms.
    • Define enterprise cloud platform strategies supporting Data, AI and digital product development.
    • Design target-state architectures enabling scalable, secure and automated infrastructure across cloud environments.
    • Define policy-as-code frameworks and automated governance models ensuring security, compliance and cost optimisation.
    • Embed resilience, observability and disaster recovery into enterprise platform design.
    • Ensure cloud environments align with Well-Architected Framework principles.
    • Design modular infrastructure frameworks and reusable blueprints enabling consistent and scalable deployments.
    • Identify technical debt and operational bottlenecks and design modernised infrastructure architectures to support long-term scalability.
    • Enable development, data and AI teams to deploy platforms and workloads independently at scale.
    • Lead the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and platform engineering practices across client organisations.
    • Define and implement automated CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform provisioning.
  • Internal Capability & Thought Leadership
    • Contribute to the development of Valcon's Cloud and Platform Engineering capability, shaping propositions, standards and go-to-market offerings.
    • Mentor and support the development of engineering and architecture talent across the organisation.
    • Act as a leading voice within Valcon and externally, evangelising cloud as a business value driver through thought leadership, client engagement and industry presence.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong consulting background with the ability to engage CIO/CTO-level stakeholders, lead architecture workshops and translate business strategy into scalable technology solutions.
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into practical platform architectures.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise-scale cloud platforms that support data, AI and digital products.
  • Deep understanding of modern cloud architecture across AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and automated platform provisioning using tools such as Terraform, Bicep or CloudFormation, enabling scalable and repeatable deployments.
  • Experience establishing platform engineering capabilities, cloud landing zones and reusable infrastructure blueprints that enable engineering teams to deploy applications and data platforms at scale.
  • Strong track record of leading large-scale cloud modernisation and platform transformation programmes, working with senior stakeholders to move organisations from legacy infrastructure to automated cloud-native platforms.
  • Experience contributing to pre-sales activities, including proposals, solution shaping and client presentations.
  • Experience combining delivery leadership with business development, contributing to revenue growth and client development.
