Hot Water Comedy Club is a multi-award-winning live comedy venue based inside Liverpool's newest destination, Blackstock Market. We host live comedy up to five nights a week and have been named Best Club and Best Venue.
We are now looking for an experienced Technical Manager to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced live entertainment environment, ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, loves live events, and has strong technical and customer-facing skills.
The Role
You will be responsible for ensuring our shows run smoothly, safely and to a consistently high technical standard. Working closely with performers, production teams and front-of-house staff, you will oversee show operations across multiple performance spaces, from technical planning through to live delivery. Strong organisation, attention to detail and calm decision-making are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical planning and delivery of a high-volume comedy, music and live events programme
- Oversee all audio, lighting, video and staging operations across multiple spaces
- Act as the main technical contact for visiting performers, agents and touring production teams
- Advance technical requirements and translate briefs into practical, deliverable plans
- Manage load-ins, setups, changeovers, live operation and load-outs
- Supervise and coordinate the in-house technical team during live events
- Train and mentor staff to maintain consistent working practices
- Ensure all technical equipment is maintained, fault-free and show-ready
- Implement and monitor safe systems of work and Health & Safety compliance
- Remain calm under pressure while balancing competing priorities during live shows
- Programme music and live events across all venue spaces
- Work closely with venue management and operations teams to enhance the audience experience
Required Experience
- Degree in Audio Engineering, Lighting Production or a related field
- Proven experience in a live or broadcast environment
- Strong working knowledge of Midas digital desks, OBS, buses and routing
- Experience with Dante systems
- Experience mixing sound for a variety of bands
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Solid understanding of Health and Safety requirements in live venues
- Ability to problem-solve effectively under pressure

Desirable Experience
- Dante Level 1 Certification
- Knowledge of QuickQ and MagicQ
- Video editing experience
- Previous experience working in hospitality
