We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with expertise in neurodevelopmental assessment to join a specialist autism diagnostic service. In this role, you will deliver high-quality autism diagnostic assessments, with a primary focus on administering the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R) as part of a multidisciplinary assessment pathway. You will conduct structured developmental interviews, gather detailed clinical histories, and contribute to diagnostic decision-making through comprehensive clinical reports.
This role is delivered remotely and offers the opportunity to focus on structured, high-quality assessments while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of clinicians involved in autism diagnosis.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Deliver structured ADI-R assessments remotely in line with national clinical guidance and best practice.
- Conduct comprehensive developmental history interviews with parents, carers and/or individuals as part of the autism diagnostic process.
- Gather and synthesise information from clinical interviews, questionnaires, behavioural observations and collateral information where available.
- Use clinical judgement and professional expertise to contribute to diagnostic formulation using recognised frameworks such as DSM-5 / ICD-11.
- Produce high-quality clinical reports summarising assessment findings and supporting diagnostic decisions.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation on the clinical platform.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) including psychologists, psychiatrists and other allied health professionals involved in the diagnostic pathway.
- Communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, families and carers throughout the assessment process.
- Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with established procedures.
- Participate in MDT case discussions and contribute to diagnostic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of autism assessment practice and participate in relevant professional development.
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Formal training in ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised).
- Demonstrable experience conducting autism or neurodevelopmental assessments.
- Strong clinical report writing skills.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary diagnostic teams.
- Ability to deliver assessments via remote or digital clinical platforms.
- Training or experience in additional autism assessment tools such as ADOS-2, 3Di or DISCO.
- Experience working in CAMHS, adult autism services, or neurodevelopmental pathways.
- Experience conducting remote diagnostic assessments.
