This position sits within the growing UK power division of a major global engineering firm with deep capability in power, data centres, infrastructure and complex buildings. The organisation has a long established reputation in the American market and is now significantly expanding its UK and European presence.

The UK power team is building depth across transmission, distribution, substations and grid connection work. This includes internal delivery for hyperscale data centre clients, international power groups and a wider pipeline as they expand further into the DNO, TSO and grid studies environment. The combined scale, technical pedigree and employee ownership model makes this a compelling environment for an ambitious engineer looking to develop into senior leadership.

This is a moment in time where strong engineers can step into a team that is gaining momentum and directly influence how capability develops over the coming years.

The Business

The organisation operates globally across power, data centres, infrastructure and major building programmes. With operations across the United States, the United Kingdom and multiple European regions, the business brings significant global scale and technical depth.

The power group is well established internationally with large teams delivering high voltage substations, transmission and distribution programmes, grid connections and power systems studies for utilities, large private clients and major developers. Much of this capability is now being replicated and scaled across the UK.

The company is employee owned, financially strong and aligned around long term engineering quality rather than short term commercial pressure. This creates a culture where technical standards, capability building and professional development are prioritised.

The Role

The Associate Power Engineer role is a key technical and delivery position within the UK power function. It is suited to engineers with strong grounding in high voltage systems such as substation design, transmission and distribution, protection and control, or grid connection studies.

Your contribution will support senior technical leaders and help strengthen the division as it grows. You will work closely with internal global power teams, UK project managers and external clients across data centre and power infrastructure programmes.

Technical Delivery

  • Supporting and leading elements of high voltage substation design, physical design, plant layout, earthing, protection and control and transmission or distribution interfaces
  • Working on grid connection studies, power systems modelling and technical analysis where relevant to your background
  • Producing designs, calculations, specifications and reports to support major internal and external clients

Project and Team Capability

  • Delivering packages of work from concept through to detailed design
  • Working with senior engineers to maintain technical quality and alignment with best practice
  • Supporting design reviews and contributing to the technical direction of projects
  • Helping develop junior engineers and strengthening capability within the UK team

Collaboration and Growth

  • Working with Project Managers, Senior Technical Leads and wider global power teams
  • Building long term relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the development of the UK power capability as the division expands

This role offers a balanced combination of hands on high voltage engineering, delivery responsibility and career development toward senior technical leadership.

What You Will Bring

  • Degree qualified electrical engineer
  • Strong grounding in high voltage engineering through substation design, grid connection studies, power systems analysis or transmission and distribution design
  • Familiarity with IEC, IEEE and relevant design standards
  • Experience preparing calculations, designs and technical documentation
  • Confidence working with multidisciplinary teams and engaging with clients or internal stakeholders
  • A desire to be part of a growing UK division and contribute to long term capability building
  • Experience with DigSILENT, IPSA, ETAP or similar tools is advantageous but not essential depending on background

This position is suited to an Associate Engineer or experienced Senior Engineer who wants to step into a growing organisation, gain exposure to major data centre and power programmes and develop toward technical leadership.

What Is On Offer

The role sits within a power business that already has substantial work to deliver. The demand exists today, with internal clients in data centres and global power groups driving a strong flow of projects into the UK.

You will join a team that is receiving significant investment in technical capability and leadership as it expands into the wider UK and European market. There is long term opportunity as the division grows from its current size into a larger, self sustaining business unit.

You will have the backing of large global power teams, access to established technical standards and a highly collaborative culture shaped by employee ownership. The environment supports professional development, chartership and progression into senior roles as the team expands.

For the right engineer, this is a rare chance to join at a formative stage and help build a high quality power engineering capability in the UK.
