This job is for a Head of Department for Financial Mis-Selling, a senior leadership role responsible for launching a new legal department.The role focuses on two specific areas of litigation:Business Energy Mis-Selling: Handling cases where energy brokers received secret commissions from suppliers, which inflated client costs.Undisclosed Mortgage Commission: Pursuing claims against brokers and lenders for hidden commissions, similar to cases involving mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI).The ideal candidate will be a qualified litigator (solicitor or legal executive) with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience in civil litigation, specifically with a background in financial mis-selling or consumer credit.Key ResponsibilitiesAs the Head of Department, you will:Build and Lead the New Department: Establish and manage a new team of lawyers and paralegals.Manage Complex Litigation: Oversee all aspects of high-value cases, from developing legal strategy to leading negotiations and handling large-scale group claims.Mentor and Supervise: Guide and train junior legal staff, and shape the department\’s legal precedents and procedures.Ensure Compliance: Work with internal teams to maintain robust client onboarding and risk management protocols.Candidate RequirementsYou should have:Extensive Experience: A strong background in civil litigation, specifically handling undisclosed commission cases and high-volume claims.Leadership Skills: A proven track record of managing legal teams and contributing to business growth.Strong Legal Acumen: Excellent skills in drafting legal documents, negotiating, and communicating with clients and other parties.Commercial Awareness: The ability to identify strategic opportunities and deliver strong legal outcomes.What the Role OffersThis is a unique opportunity to build and lead a new department with significant autonomy.
