A highly respected international engineering and consultancy organisation is seeking a senior Human Factors leader to play a pivotal role in the continued growth of its Safety & Risk capability across major nuclear, defence and critical infrastructure programmes. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced Human Factors professional who can combine deep technical expertise with commercial awareness, capability development and stakeholder influence at senior level.
The successful candidate will help shape the future direction of the Human Factors offering within a well-established consultancy environment supporting some of the UK's most complex and safety-critical projects.
The Opportunity
Reporting into senior leadership, you will lead the development and expansion of the Human Factors capability, ensuring services remain aligned with evolving market demands and client requirements. You will work closely with technical and commercial stakeholders to strengthen market positioning, support business growth initiatives and provide technical leadership across a varied project portfolio. This role offers significant influence across both operational delivery and long-term strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic development of the Human Factors capability across safety-critical sectors
- Shape and enhance service offerings in line with client and market needs
- Provide technical leadership and oversight across complex programmes and projects
- Ensure Human Factors principles are integrated into engineering, operational and safety decision-making
- Support business development activities, bids and client engagement initiatives
- Develop, mentor and grow high-performing technical teams
- Drive continuous improvement in methodologies, tools and delivery standards
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
- Represent the Human Factors function at senior level across the wider business
Candidate Profile
Applicants should demonstrate substantial Human Factors experience within nuclear, defence or other high-hazard industries, alongside a strong track record of technical and strategic leadership. You will be commercially aware, highly credible with clients and comfortable operating within complex stakeholder environments.
Key requirements include:
- Extensive Human Factors expertise within regulated or high-risk sectors
- Experience leading teams, developing capability or driving strategic initiatives
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to translate client requirements into practical, value-led solutions
- Experience supporting business growth, bids or service development would be advantageous
- Degree-qualified in Human Factors, ergonomics, psychology or a related discipline
- Professional membership such as CIEHF desirable
