Working closely with other EMEA business units, the position ensures a structured QHSE management system aligned with a common regional approach. The role ensures legal compliance, drives continuous improvement, and embeds a strong QHSE culture across all levels of the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing the QHSE Director with reports on quality complaints and managing the allocation of internal and external resources to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Conducting site visits to customers, suppliers, or other business units—both locally and internationally—to address QHSE requirements.
  • Leading by example in all business activities, promoting a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Legal and regulatory compliance across QHSE disciplines
  • Successful maintenance of ISO certifications
  • Reduction in incidents, accidents, and non-compliances
  • Continuous improvement in QHSE performance and culture

Responsibilities:

  • Quality Management
    • Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with ISO 9001 or equivalent.
    • Ensure consistent application of quality standards across sites, projects, and operations.
    • Lead internal and external audits, including customer and certification body audits.
    • Investigate quality non-conformances and implement corrective and preventative actions.
    • Monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Health & Safety
    • Act as the organization's competent person for Health & Safety under UK legislation (e.g. HSWA 1974).
    • Develop, review, and implement H&S policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
    • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, and RIDDOR.
    • Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • Deliver or coordinate H&S training and toolbox talks.
    • Promote a proactive safety culture across the organization.
  • Environmental Management
    • Develop and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permits.
    • Monitor environmental performance, including waste, emissions, and energy use.
    • Lead initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve sustainability performance.
    • Liaise with regulators and external stakeholders as required.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Management
    • Provide expert QHSE advice to senior management and operational teams.
    • Support managers and supervisors in fulfilling their QHSE responsibilities.
    • Prepare reports, dashboards, and performance updates for leadership teams.
    • Manage relationships with auditors, consultants, customers, and regulatory bodies.

Skills and Experience – Required for the Role:

  • Proven experience in a Technical or Quality-related role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Recognized qualifications in Quality, SPC, Six Sigma, or similar disciplines (advantageous).
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective listening skills, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Solid numeracy skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel knowledge.
  • Experience within the Food and Drinks Industry (advantageous).
  • Exposure to working with non-UK manufacturers, including understanding of different languages and cultures.
  • Strong people management skills, with experience in team development and leadership.

As part of the Berlin Packaging team, you are responsible for supporting all other employees both within and outside your own Department. You may from time to time wish to volunteer to work on, or be asked to assist with, a task that is outside your normal duties.
