Position: Refrigeration Design Engineer (Industrial Refrigeration)

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Location: Remote - Based anywhere in the UK (Head office is based in Leicestershire)

Salary: up to £75K plus company car or cash allowance & benefits & performance bonus

PRS Engineering has engaged with a key client and a leading Industrial Cooling & Refrigeration specialist operating and delivering high value projects across the UK with headquarters based in Leicestershire. Due to team expansion and winning new projects, we are seeking an Industrial Design Engineer with a background in Ammonia, CO2 Systems, Industrial Cooling Technologies &/or Industrial Refrigeration to support business requirements and oversee key projects.

This is a remote working role with occasional attendance at the Leicester office required as will site visits and site surveys.

The Role:

  • To design and propose industrial refrigeration systems for food manufacturing facilities and logistics cold storage centres.
  • Detailing costs and designs to customers while meeting legislative and customer-specific requirements.
  • Create comprehensive designs from initial briefs and/or drawings, whilst adhering to the latest company and industry standards.
  • Produce detailed design work, consisting of but not limited to: cold room and facility heat load calculations, equipment selections, pumped circulation system design, P&ID development and approvals, concept design presentations, sales stage design applications, engineering specification sheets, pipework isometric drawings, and pipe sizing for ammonia refrigeration systems.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Carry out site surveys where required.
  • Generate and update enquiry bank.
  • Attend customer scoping and design meetings where required.
  • Produce initial outline design/scope.
  • Produce Design File (electronic or hard copy) in line with ISO 9001 standard.
  • Produce detailed design post sales stage and convert into live project for delivery team.
  • Conduct heat load calculations, produce engineering sheets and pipework isometric drawings, equipment selections and pipe work sizing.
  • Produce supplier/sub-contractor enquiries for quotations.
  • Produce data for Design of Contracts project handover including: Equipment/supplier/sub-contractor procurement schedule, identify PED category of system and inform compliance team if CAT 4, calculate system refrigerant charge, produce high level program of works and high level phasing with support of delivery team.
  • Raise Contract Approval Form to enable project to be booked on system.
  • Mark up drawings and issue to CAD department to produce.
  • Attend site at least once during project installation period, to carry out design review.
  • Assist PM during delivery phase for design queries.
  • Maintain excellent service levels at all times, ensuring a 'first Class' service to all customers.
  • Take on projects as and when required and see them through to successful completion.

Financial:

  • Produce estimates in line with customer budgets and to agreed company margins.
  • Produce formal scope of works and formal quotations.
  • Assist CM with project variation design and costs.
  • All contracts over £500k to have contract/design review with senior member of staff.
  • Identify means of generating extra revenue through new initiatives (forward thinking).

People:

  • One to one session with line manager once a quarter.
  • Treat other colleagues, managers, customers and other stakeholders equally and with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Where possible - assist others with tasks that may be outside of the scope of your role.
  • Assist with coaching other colleagues/managers, for cross training purposes in your area of expertise.

Compliance:

  • Ensure that all relevant company and legislative policies and best practices are adhered to and always maintained.
  • Inform the relevant Manager of non-conformances and ensure that corrective action is taken.
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures throughout within your remit.
  • Produce Design File (electronic or hard copy) in line with ISO 9001 standard.
  • Ensure Refrigeration industry codes and standards are upheld.
  • Comply with environmental policies and put forward new ideas for improving environmental efficiencies.
  • Adhere to Group H&S procedures with due regard for business constraints and efficiency.
