We're supporting a major UK insurer to hire a Senior Java Backend Contractor to strengthen a team building business-critical internal platforms used every day across the organisation.
You'll join a modern engineering setup delivering and running Spring Boot APIs that power agent tooling and integrations. This is a hands-on role where quality matters: clean code, solid tests, reliable releases — and the confidence to jump into production debugging when needed.
What you'll be doing:
- Building, enhancing and maintaining Java/Spring Boot REST APIs
- Working across multiple API repositories in a Kanban delivery flow
- Writing well-tested code (unit tests as standard)
- Deploying and supporting services on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines, reviews and engineering best practice
- Troubleshooting defects and supporting incident resolution when issues arise
- Keeping technical documentation accurate and useful
- Helping others succeed through coaching/mentoring and knowledge sharing
What we're looking for:
Essential:
- Strong commercial experience with Java + Spring Boot
- Solid SQL and relational database experience
- Proven delivery on Kubernetes, ideally AKS
- Strong API experience (REST, Git, PR reviews)
Desirable:
- Azure DevOps and YAML pipelines
- Docker / containerisation
- Cucumber/Gherkin, Azure Data Factory, or GenAI exposure
Why this contract?
- High day rate: £700/day inside IR35
- Fully remote
- Long runway: 9 months with extension potential
- A role with genuine impact on an enterprise-scale, business-critical platform
If you're a strong Java/Spring Boot engineer who enjoys delivering reliable services and improving how teams ship software, I'd love to speak to you. Click "Apply" or reach out to matthew.lannen@infosecpeople.co.uk for more information.
