The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to take ownership of ground engineering delivery — from feasibility to detailed design — while contributing to high-profile projects alongside some of the industry’s top specialists. You’ll also have opportunities to mentor junior engineers, lead design packages, and collaborate across multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver geotechnical designs and specifications from concept through to construction.
  • Undertake ground modelling and develop characteristic parameters.
  • Supervise ground investigations and support site works when required.
  • Produce desk studies, interpretive reports, and technical deliverables.
  • Address risks including soft soils, slope stability, mining legacies, and earthworks design.
  • Design foundations, retaining walls, soil nails, anchors, and more.
  • Integrate geotechnical solutions within broader civil and structural designs.
  • Represent BakerHicks in client meetings and technical reviews.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology (or equivalent).
  • Working toward chartership with ICE, GeolSoc, or similar.
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant geotechnical field is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and experience on UK ground engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical design software (GEO5 desirable).
  • Strong understanding of ground risks and soil mechanics.
  • Experience in ground investigation and supervision.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel for short-term site work.
  • PTS certification is a bonus but not essential.
