We’re a distributed team, so you have the option to be based in our Bristol office, or remote with the use of your nearest Hoare Lea office.It\’s an exciting time to join the team as we grow, powering the digital transformation of a slow-moving industry. You’ll be joining an established product team that continually delivers new features and updates to our Origin platform. Our consultants are using Origin every day to design high-performance buildings, so it needs to be fast, reduce opportunities for error, and support their workflows.The role has two facets. As a UX designer, you’ll set up the right processes so we can ensure we’re always developing software that works for its users; and you’ll co-ordinate with other teams to set standards and make toolkits to ensure consistent design across data visualizations and project deliverables across the company. As a front-end developer in a Scrum team, you’ll be working with other developers to turn those UX ideas into working user interfaces.In this key and varied role, you can expect to:Use your front-end interface development expertise, as well as your User Experience (UX) Design skills to ensure that what is built is usable and therefore likely to be adopted.Work within a Scrum development team, alongside developers with different skills, to deliver end-to-end stories. Your participation in a story doesn’t end with a mock-up; it ends when the feature is deployed and in use.Help to build a body of UX and design expertise across teams so that everyone building internal and client-facing software, data dashboards, and digital deliverables can create consistently great and on-brand experiences.Plan and run user studies, and gather feedback, to help the team decide how our software should work, look, and feel. You will be the person the rest of the team turns to answer these questions, and it’s up to you to decide how to answer them.Support the effective usage of our new data platform and our apprentices in the Data Academy.About youTo succeed in this role, you identify to some extent with each of these statements. This is a multi-faceted role so we don’t expect you to be a world expert on all of them, but the more of them you can demonstrate prior experience of, the better.You can demonstrate experience of designing a great experience for software users, running UX processes and experiments like user observation and value mapping.You care about the nitty-gritty of UI design, from information architecture to what colours the buttons should be.You understand that UI design isn’t just a static mock-up; you consider error and loading states, transitions, and interactions, as part of your designs.You can critique and review the work of others, respond to constructive feedback on your work, and articulate your ideas to a team with varied perspectives, with the aim of bringing together the best aspects of everyone’s input.You can realise your designs in a React-based front-end, together with code documentation and tests.You can contribute to a software project using Git, pull requests, and continuous integration.How to applyTo apply simply complete a CV profile and submit your application.If shortlisted, one of our recruitment team will be in touch to arrange a introductory call (about 30 minutes) to discuss the role and your experience in more detail.
