The Role

As Dispensing Optician, you will play a key part in the patient journey, acting as the vital link between the consulting room and the dispensing process. You will provide expert advice, deliver a premium experience, and ensure every patient leaves with the best possible solution for their lifestyle and visual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service with a warm, professional approach
  • Support the three-way handover between the Optometrist and patient
  • Guide patients through frame and lens selection with confidence
  • Take accurate measurements, including the use of digital dispensing tools where required
  • Ensure orders are processed smoothly and liaise with suppliers when needed
  • Carry out quality checks, fittings, and adjustments to ensure comfort and accuracy
  • Complete administration and clinical record keeping to a high standard, ensuring GDPR compliance
  • Handle transactions accurately and in line with practice procedures
  • Support and supervise Dispensing Assistants, providing training where appropriate
  • Assist with minor repairs to spectacles and hearing devices
  • Resolve patient queries professionally, escalating where necessary
  • Maintain excellent standards of presentation in both personal appearance and practice environment
  • Keep up to date with products, clinical techniques, CPD, and GOC requirements

Requirements

  • Previous experience within an optical dispensing environment
  • Level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing (or equivalent)
  • GOC registration
  • Strong communication skills with a patient-first mindset
  • Confident using IT systems with strong organisational skills
  • Positive, adaptable, and motivated to develop within a progressive independent practice
