An established manufacturing organisation in Northumberland is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Engineering team. This is a site‐based, hands‐on role focused on maintaining and improving electrical systems that support a high‐performance manufacturing operation.
The successful candidate will provide electrical engineering support to ensure production equipment, facilities, and services are maintained to a high standard. Working closely with engineering, production, and project teams, the role plays a key part in equipment reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out routine and preventative maintenance on production equipment
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on manufacturing machinery and support equipment
- Perform calibration, validation, and corrective adjustments on devices such as load cells and temperature controllers
- Provide engineering support to production to improve machine output and resolve process issues
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment
- Work alongside the on‐site project team to develop new or improved electrical control systems
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using a CMM
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations and site procedures (including LOTO, permits to work, risk assessments, and ATEX requirements)
- Support and mentor junior technicians and apprentices where required
- Proven experience fault‐finding and troubleshooting Siemens PLC systems
- Familiarity with AC/DC drives (Siemens and ABB preferred)
- Working knowledge of tension control systems
- Experience with industrial bus systems such as Profibus and Profinet
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
- Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and best practices
- Completed apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge of current electrical installation standards (desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge of ATEX zoning and hazardous environments (desirable but not essential)
- Strong problem‐solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Confident communicator, capable of explaining technical issues clearly
- Strong sense of responsibility and professional approach
