Who we are
Rowan Veterinary Centre is an independently owned, nine-vet small animal practice with a clear sense of who we are and what we stand for. Our directors, Ruth Mackay and Drew Milner-Dunn, aren't hidden away in an office — they work in and on the business alongside the team, every week.
Our five values aren't a poster on the wall. They're how we make decisions, how we lead, and how we treat each other:
- Be Brave - speak up, challenge the norm, try new things.
- Growth - your development is built into how we work, not bolted on.
- Respect - for patients, clients and every member of this team.
- Make a Difference - to the animals we care for and the people around us.
- Creating Belonging for All - because you should feel at home here.
The clinical environment
We've built something we're genuinely proud of — a purposefully designed space that makes the clinical work better.
- Purpose-built hospital near Warton with surrounding green space, plus a renovated branch in Blackpool.
- Separate dog and cat clinical areas; cat-friendly accredited.
- Dedicated operating theatre, imaging suite and dental theatre with X-ray.
- Visiting orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeon and specialist cardiologists.
- Certificate holders (and those working towards certificates) in dentistry, surgery, ophthalmology, pain management, behaviour and medicine - all supported by Rowan.
- Inpatient care on site with case continuity we're exceptionally proud of.
How we work day to day
- 20-minute consults as standard.
- A well-structured day with protected and respected case management time.
- Morning, midday and evening rounds - collaboration is how we think, not an afterthought.
- A psychologically safe culture where questions, ideas and feedback are genuinely welcomed.
- Regular check-ins and appraisals and development built in - not just talked about, acted on.
- An experienced, trusted RVN nursing team who take patient welfare as seriously as you do.
- A considerate client care team that strives to make a difference every single day.
This role is for you if...
- You want to grow clinically and have a practice that actively supports you.
- You're looking for independence - clinical freedom and a team that trusts you.
- You value genuine relationships with colleagues, not just a place to clock in and out.
- You're motivated by making a real difference to patients and clients, not just throughput.
- You want to feel like you belong somewhere - not just work somewhere.
We welcome applications from experienced vets at all career stages. Our independence means we can move quickly and shape the role around the right person.
