We are seeking a highly motivated and commercially minded Business Manager to oversee daily operations, lead business development, and drive the execution of strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in managing cross-functional business activities, a passion for events and marketing, and a keen interest in international expansion.
Key Responsibilities:- Strategic Planning & Growth
- Collaborate with the Directors to define and execute short and long-term business strategies.
- Lead the development and launch of a subscription-based membership offering.
- Identify new international markets and expansion opportunities.
- Operations Management
- Oversee the planning and delivery of online and in-person events.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Ensure operational efficiency across marketing, sales, and customer support.
- Team & Stakeholder Management
- Recruit, lead, and manage a small growing team across departments.
- Liaise with external partners, suppliers, venues, and speakers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients.
- Marketing & Business Development
- Work closely with the marketing team to support customer acquisition, retention, and brand positioning.
- Identify commercial opportunities such as sponsorships, partnerships, and upsells.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to refine the company’s offering.
- Product Development
- Lead the development of new event formats and membership benefits.
- Oversee the user experience and engagement across all platforms and touchpoints.
Other Responsibilities:
- Represent Marketing in Maritime at meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
- Travel to Sponsor/ Member sites as needed to maintain strong relationships and deliver on the initiative objectives.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a general management, operations, or strategic role within an SME, ideally in the marketing, media, or events sector.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to manage budgets, teams, and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a hands-on, can-do attitude.
- Exceptional organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Experience with subscription models or membership platforms is a strong plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving start-up environment.

Location
We are a lively company with an office in Croydon and Petersfield and a virtual office spread across the south. The working environment is very friendly, supportive, and sociable. In this new era we understand the benefits and efficiency it can bring by enabling staff the option of a hybrid home/office setup in addition to office time.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive (Depending on experience levels).
