About the client: Our client is a leading international integrated energy company with a strong global project engineering capability, currently driving an ambitious energy transition programme spanning CCS/CCUS, renewables, and hydrogen alongside its traditional oil and gas portfolio. The Basingstoke engineering office is a fully integrated project execution hub delivering multi-discipline engineering across all phases of complex projects worldwide, with a dedicated Subsea Systems department at its core.

Project scope: The assignment is based within the client's Basingstoke Subsea Systems department, providing Flow Assurance technical leadership across multiple concurrent international oil and gas projects β€” from feasibility and concept development through FEED, detailed engineering, and handover to operations. The role also extends to CCUS projects, covering CO2 transportation system assessment and thermo-hydraulic studies specific to CO2 transport.

The Senior Engineer will operate as both a technical lead and a Discipline Project Lead (PDL), accountable for Flow Assurance deliverables across assigned projects and responsible for mentoring junior engineers within the discipline. The client operates a hybrid working policy: up to 12 working days per month from home are available, enabling approximately 60% remote working.

Role overview: To provide senior Flow Assurance technical leadership across the full project lifecycle β€” from conceptual studies through FEED, tendering, detailed engineering, and operations support β€” ensuring technical rigour, cross-discipline integration, and compliance with applicable standards across the client's international oil and gas and CCUS projects.

Reporting line: You will report to the Flow Assurance Coordinator and the Chief of Subsea Systems, and work in daily coordination with discipline engineers, interface disciplines (Pipelines/Subsea, Process/Facilities, Operations), contractors, and reservoir and laboratory teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Technical delivery: Prepare all Flow Assurance technical documentation across project phases: conceptual study, FEED, tendering, contract package preparation, detailed engineering, and operations.
  • Review and approve FEED, tender, and detailed engineering deliverables prepared by contractors for the Flow Assurance discipline.
  • Identify, define, and analyse complex multiphase hydrocarbon transportation schemes.
  • Assess CO2 transportation systems, evaluate operating envelopes, and support thermo-hydraulic studies for CCUS projects.
  • Provide technical support to interface disciplines β€” Pipelines/Subsea, Process/Facilities, Operations β€” ensuring integrated solutions across all project phases.
  • Support operations and troubleshoot start-up and commissioning issues as required.

Procurement & contractor management

  • Follow up supplier calls for tender and selection processes: qualifications, clarifications, and technical recommendations for the Flow Assurance discipline.
  • Manage interfaces with reservoir engineering and laboratory teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Project leadership & PDL duties

  • Act as Discipline Project Lead (PDL) on assigned complex projects: perform technical and administrative PDL functions.
  • Proactively identify and report manhour and schedule variations due to scope changes; escalate to the Flow Assurance Coordinator and Chief of Subsea Systems.
  • Support the Flow Assurance Coordinator and Chief of Subsea Systems in preparing manhour estimates for new proposals.
  • Liaise with engineering disciplines throughout the project execution phase; coordinate and manage cross-discipline interfaces.

Standards, mentoring & continuous improvement

  • Ensure awareness of and compliance with international standards and codes applicable to Flow Assurance.
  • Advise on correct interpretation and application of company internal standards and HSEQ policies; develop new standards as required.
  • Mentor engineers within the Flow Assurance team; contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the discipline.
  • Support technical and safety reviews: HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments, design and safety reviews.

Key deliverables

  • Flow Assurance technical documentation delivered on schedule and to the required quality standard across all assigned project phases.
  • Contractor and FEED deliverables reviewed and approved within defined timescales.
  • Manhour estimates and variation forecasts provided accurately and proactively.
  • PDL functions performed rigorously across assigned complex projects.
  • Junior engineers mentored with structured guidance and discipline knowledge transfer.

Requirements

Education: Degree in Engineering with graduate-level knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics β€” petroleum, chemical, mechanical, or related discipline.

Experience:

  • Must-have: Extensive experience as a Flow Assurance Engineer across the full project development lifecycle β€” from concept development through FEED, detailed engineering, and handover to operations.
  • Proven capability in identifying, defining, and analysing complex multiphase hydrocarbon transportation schemes.
  • Experience performing technical review of Flow Assurance documentation produced by team members and contractors.
  • Experience with Technical Audit and Design & Safety Reviews β€” HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessment.
  • Ability to manage complex and diverse assignments with a high degree of independent technical judgement.
  • Nice-to-have: Operational experience (commissioning, start-up, or production support).
  • Experience on CCUS projects β€” CO2 transportation system assessment and thermo-hydraulic modelling.

Technical skills:

  • Proficient with Flow Assurance simulation software: OLGA, PVTSim, Multiflash, Pipenet, Pipesim, Hysys, Unisim.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Matlab, C++, Python) β€” an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of international codes and standards applicable to Flow Assurance and subsea systems.
  • Knowledge of HSE and technical risk integration into engineering and project solutions.

Soft skills:

  • Strong technical leadership and engineering judgement β€” able to operate independently at senior level.
  • Effective communicator across disciplines, stakeholder levels, and cultures β€” both laterally and vertically within the organisation.
  • Collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to project delivery.
  • Structured task prioritisation and ability to manage concurrent workstreams under pressure.
