An exciting opportunity has arisen for a mechanical biased maintenance technician at the Flogas Avonmouth site currently undergoing new build of LPG storage and export facility. Suitable candidates will need to be proactive, quality, and reliability focused Maintenance Technicians and report to the site Senior Maintenance Supervisor and Site Manager.

Reporting into the Senior Maintenance Supervisor, the mechanical engineer will initially work alongside experienced engineers to undertake the technical installations and inspections of large LPG tanks. Individuals must be prepared to work away from home for up to a week at a time. They must possess good communication skills and be able to react to situations as they arise.

What we will need from you:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance activities on site equipment in line with site maintenance strategies, ensuring maximum plant reliability and availability.
  • Maintain and repair safety-critical equipment in accordance with Written Schemes of Examination (WSE), Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), and site procedures.
  • Execute all maintenance work in compliance with COMAH regulations, permit-to-work systems, and isolation (LOTO) procedures.
  • Utilise the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (e.g. Maximo) to plan, execute, and close out work orders with clear technical reporting and no backlog.
  • Diagnose faults using systematic troubleshooting techniques, condition monitoring data, and equipment performance trends.
  • Identify defective or deteriorating equipment and implement effective repair or replacement solutions.
  • Work closely with Operations to identify underperforming equipment and develop reliability improvement strategies.
  • Participate in daily planning and coordination meetings to prioritise maintenance activities and minimise plant downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including technical findings, failure modes, and corrective actions.
  • Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory to ensure availability and control of critical spares.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and technical input for maintenance activities and small projects.
  • Liaise with suppliers and external contractors to coordinate specialist repairs and procurement of parts.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Time-served Mechanical Maintenance Technician with a recognised apprenticeship and a minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Post-apprenticeship experience within a high-hazard industrial environment (e.g. COMAH, oil & gas, chemical, or process industry).
  • Ideally qualified to, or working towards, HNC / NVQ Level 4 in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo or SAP.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance practices within a regulated environment, including compliance with permit-to-work and isolation procedures.
  • Demonstrates a strong process safety mindset, with a proven commitment to high safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Experience of working with contractors and managing work in line with CDM requirements would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques and lubrication best practices would be beneficial.
  • Good level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office, for reporting, data analysis, and maintenance documentation.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across operations, engineering, and contractor teams.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Sound understanding of process plant hazards, including pressure systems, rotating equipment, and flammable or explosive atmospheres (ATEX/DSEAR).
  • Experience working collaboratively with suppliers and contractors to deliver maintenance and repair activities.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues and solutions to all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate upcoming maintenance workloads and support site shutdowns or project activities.
