I am in a partnership with a well-known pharmaceutical client who are recruiting for a Medical Science Expert (MSE) who has experience of working within Oncology covering the Midlands. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in medical affairs, previous experience in Oncology (ideally GU cancers). The role is being offered on a 12-month fixed term contract starting immediately.

We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to be part of a high performing team who has a patient focussed approach who can work cross functionally with ability to build relationships, network and communicate effectively with internal and external teams, HCPs and peers.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Therapy Area Specialist (TAS; a similar role to Key Account Manager) to coordinate engagement with HCPs, sharing outcomes of meetings while respecting the compliance boundaries of what cannot be shared.
  • Hold the Primary Point of Contact role in specified cases, primarily at pre-launch phase of the product lifecycle for non-promotional activities.
  • Independently handle core medical activities, such as medical and scientific information requests, pipeline information, research/study knowledge or enquiries, early access or compassionate use programmes, sponsorship of congress attendance or related enquiries and the management of PSPs.
  • Run selected in-field visits to enable execution of medical tactics or to respond to any enquiries from customers relating to products.
  • Support clinical trial activities in alignment with Clinical Operations/ICS.
  • Engage with external customers according to their preference e.g. F2F, virtual, email, webinars etc.
  • Lead and organise core medical activities.
  • Record the outputs of medical interactions, including insights that have been generated and share them appropriately across the local medical and commercial team and share important insights with global medical colleagues.
  • Stay up to date on current scientific and clinical literature and the therapeutic landscape related to the relevant disease areas of focus.
  • Interact with local stakeholders in the medical community.
  • Utilise systematic KTL engagement plans & contribute to the cross-functional execution of KTL engagement plans.
  • Implement appropriate actions into KTL engagement plans in line with the medical strategy.
  • Appropriately tier all customers according to their scientific profile and review the tiering after every engagement with the customer.
  • Identify decision makers, influencers and networks and explore educational/information needs and collaboration opportunities which fit the medical strategy.
  • Monitor scientific trends and therapeutic landscape.
  • Add remote/virtual engagement to F2F (hybrid by design, incl. approved email, video calls, etc.).
  • Understand and contribute to the local medical strategy & objectives and apply the medical to external scientific stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Gather and internally communicate relevant opinions, expert knowledge, insights, research & development concepts from external stakeholders to inform, advance and potentially influence the strategic direction of the respective Franchise.
  • Maintain and demonstrate comprehensive and in-depth scientific knowledge of assigned therapeutic area(s).
  • Establish and maintain peer-to-peer collaborative interactions with key physicians and major academic institutions or clinics, as outlined in the medical strategy.
  • Participate in scientific meetings and congresses to stay up to date on the latest medical and scientific advancements and to network with other professionals.
  • Identify, develop, and implement local, regional and national medical programs to fulfil unmet medical educational needs, to advance research and disease knowledge, and ensure safe and appropriate use of company therapeutics.
  • Provide training to HCPs, if necessary, ahead of medical events.
  • Coordinate HCP sponsorships requests for medical education activities.
  • Handle research/clinical study related matters in line with the applicable policies and SOPs.

Key Skills:

  • Deep scientific/TA & indication knowledge (on-label, off-label, pipeline) and competition knowledge within the limits set by anti-trust and competition law.
  • Strong usage of 'new' virtual ways of engaging.
  • Ability to have impactful scientific interactions, negotiation, and networking skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent presentation skills and handle communication with HCPs and peers with impact, both in person and through remote interactions.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of the industry code of practice and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Adaptable and able to work cross-functionally.
  • Collaborative approach and effective communication.
  • Project management skills.
  • Advanced English language level.
