Karla Otto is a globally recognized public relations and communications agency, founded in 1982, with offices in 15 key cities across the UK, EMEA, US, and Asia. To help support our future growth as an agency, we are looking for a Beauty Assistant to join our team based in our London office. The Assistant, Beauty Communications is an entry level public relations position that works closely with the senior team to fulfil client needs. The Assistant will work with the team to ensure smooth running of the division in daily tasks and as it relates to the entire agency.

The candidate should have strong writing, research and organisational skills, be willing to adjust to a variety of client temperaments and personalities and be willing to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to complete a project accurately and on time.

Working closely with the Senior Account Manager, Beauty Communications, main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Client services: Prepare meeting agendas, minutes and updates for client calls. Collaborate with the account team to identify opportunities to increase product/brand visibility. Actively pitch and prepare creative e-blasts that are topical and trend-focused. Provide essential support at fashion and beauty events, with projects and shows including evenings/weekend support as required. Actively participate in team brainstorms.
  • Coverage & reporting: Compile and review client editorial clippings. Monitor and share coverage across print, online and social media with clients. Compile client reports on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis that highlight success or opportunities against the agreed key performance indicators for individual clients.
  • KOL & Media relations: Build and cultivate relationships with members of press and key opinion leaders/influencers by going on media appointments or hosting guests at the Karla Otto London showroom. Support with identifying relevant talent for organic client activations and development of KOL network.
  • Research: Keep up to date with developments in the beauty & wellness industry and identify opportunities to suggest relevant pitching angles and activation opportunities for KO beauty & wellness clients. Compile together monthly competitor landscape reports on best-in-class organic influencer and media giftings/activations.
  • Administrative support: Update and maintain media and talent contact database and industry moves. Support the Global Senior Vice President, Beauty with administrative tasks such as booking travel, meeting rooms and filing expenses. Manage workload and training of an intern, where applicable.

Key Attributes:

  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience as public relations intern.
  • Passion for the beauty industry, as well as a keen interest in culture, fashion or art.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral, externally and within team), research, and organisational skills.
  • Proactive approach to workload management, owning tasks end to end.
  • Be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, juggling multiple tasks at once.
  • Accomplishes tasks accurately, thoroughly, and with an exceptional eye for detail both with quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Highly collaborative and a true team player, yet can also work independently and unsupervised.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Must be efficient in Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, Fashion GPS and Keynote.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
