- Write, test and maintain Infrastructure as Code, mainly using Terraform, to build and change cloud resources in Azure, following agreed standards and patterns.
- Support the development of AI enabled tools and services, and help identify where AI can improve how the department works.
- Automate repetitive operational and administrative tasks using scripting (for example PowerShell and Python) and approved tools.

You’ll take on increasing ownership as your skills grow.

- A willingness to learn, accept feedback and lean on colleagues for support, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- An awareness of the importance of security when working with systems and data.

- Participation in AI development projects converting business processes to repeatable, secure outcomes.
- Entry‑level certifications, for example Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ‑900), HashiCorp Terraform Associate or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
- Exposure to CI/CD tools (for example GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps) or DevOps practices.
- Relevant work experience, such as an industrial placement, internship or apprenticeship in an IT or engineering team.
- Exposure to containers (for example Docker) or configuration management tools (for example Ansible).
Work Conditions and Environment
- Location
- Location is flexible, based at the organisation's office nearest to where the postholder lives. This is not a remote‑first role.
- Working pattern
- Full‑time, with occasional flexibility to support planned change activity outside core business hours, with support from senior colleagues.
- Working principles
- Operate within a regulated and audited environment, following change management, security, compliance and documentation standards, including keeping code, changes and decisions auditable through version control.
- Work collaboratively within the team, asking questions early, seeking help when needed and sharing knowledge openly.
- Apply a security‑first mindset to all automation, handling credentials, secrets and access with care.
- The organisation expects rapid, pragmatic delivery and execution, with a preference for automation and repeatable patterns over manual effort.
- Culture and personal fit
- The organisation values pace, outcomes and pragmatic decision‑making. The successful candidate will be curious, eager to learn and comfortable asking for help, as well as sociable and collaborative, while taking pride in the quality of their work.
- Technical environment context
- The organisation operates a 100% VDI, hybrid ICT environment with on‑premise data centre infrastructure, Active Directory and Group Policy, a small Azure cloud footprint, Microsoft 365 and AWS use, and is moving towards an AI enabled, cloud‑first model. The postholder will gain exposure across these areas, with a focus on supporting AI development and automating the cloud platform.
