Role Overview: As the Head of Business and Economics, you will lead a team of passionate educators to deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Business and Economics across Key Stages 4 and 5. You will be responsible for the strategic development and success of the department, ensuring that students receive an outstanding education that prepares them for future academic or career pathways. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious leader with a strong track record in teaching Business and Economics and a passion for driving academic achievement. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Business and Economics department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Develop, implement, and review the Business and Economics curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of all students and supports their progression to further education and careers.
  • Ensure the achievement and progress of students within the department, using data to monitor performance and implement interventions where necessary.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to department staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Take responsibility for the professional development of staff within the department, identifying training needs and opportunities for growth.
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental outcomes and implement strategies to continuously improve teaching standards and student achievement.
  • Promote extracurricular activities linked to Business and Economics, including student enrichment, enterprise activities, and career development initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with parents and carers, providing regular updates on student progress and achievements.
  • Contribute to the development of the whole-school strategy as a member of the senior leadership team.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) and relevant degree in Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Proven track record of success in teaching Business and Economics at KS4 and KS5.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Experience of leading a department or significant projects within a school.
  • Knowledge of the latest developments in Business and Economics education and curriculum changes.
  • A passion for student achievement and a commitment to ensuring the best outcomes for all pupils.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in a similar leadership role in a secondary school.
  • A Masters degree or further qualifications in Business, Economics, or education leadership.
  • Experience of teaching A-Level Business and Economics.
