Our SEN School client is currently looking for an exceptional Head of Residential Care to lead and manage a team of staff including Care Workers for a residential provision that provides high quality care to children with Special Needs and support to their families.

The overarching responsibility of the role is to:

  • Set the standards of care and be responsible for all the management aspects of running the Residential provision in accordance with the aims and objectives.
  • Support the Head Teacher and School Governors in creating an effective school and residential provision.
  • Ensure the residential provision meets the Care Standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the welfare of all children admitted, placing their needs and those of their families at the centre of all decisions.
  • Champion student voice by supporting each young person to use their individual communication system so they can meaningfully influence their care and daily experience.
  • Provide strong professional leadership, holding overall responsibility for the management of all Care, Ancillary and Nursing staff.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of care, fostering an environment for children and families that is professional, homely, welcoming and supportive.
  • Participate directly in the care of children, contributing to the development of Care Plans in collaboration with the wider Care team, and participate in the shared on call rota.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures reflect the school’s values, and that Rainbow House meets all statutory requirements relating to drug control, health and safety, and Care Standards.
  • Oversee administrative functions, including updating existing systems and implementing new ones where needed.
  • Lead the development, implementation and regular review of written practice guidelines and policies, ensuring compliance with legislation, Codes of Conduct and best practice.
  • Drive continuous improvement through auditing and evaluating care services, implementing systems that monitor and enhance quality of care.
  • Work closely with the school’s lead nurse to ensure that all medical needs are met, including administering medication and responding to medical emergencies in line with agreed protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to working within paediatric care.
  • Apply well developed care or teaching skills to support high quality provision.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to continuous professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, colleagues, volunteers, Governors and external professionals.
  • Exhibit a professional, friendly, honest and empathetic manner, bringing energy, vision and integrity to the role.
  • A proven track record of responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Ability to carry out all duties in accordance with the School’s Health and Safety at Work Policy.
  • Demonstrate how they have tackled new challenges with enthusiasm, positivity and resilience.
