ACCOUNTABLE TO: MANAGER OF LINK COMMUNITY CARE

Full Time and Part Time roles available

Salary: Monday to Friday £13.35, weekend rate £14 and selected bank holidays £16.50

Main Purpose of the Post

The care worker is part of a team whose function is to provide care to service users in their own home. Our client group may have a diagnosis of mental ill health, learning disability, acquired brain injury and dementia.

Staff are expected to give respect and dignity in all situations to all individuals, whilst maintaining confidentiality within the organisation at all times.

Specific Responsibilities:

Service Users

  • To provide, where appropriate, personal assistance to individuals such as washing, toileting, dressing, meal provision and feeding in accordance with clients' individual care plan.
  • To supervise service users taking medication as per Link Community Care policy.
  • To accompany to hospital appointments.
  • To provide sitting services with clients to enable their main carers to have time for themselves.
  • To intervene appropriately to resolve situations arising out of challenging behaviours, and by reporting back to your line manager any situation you feel may be a risk to clients or their carers.
  • To act in a friendly and empathetic manner towards service users' relatives and carers whilst ensuring confidentiality for the service user.
  • To ensure that all work areas carried out are left tidy.

The agency provides calls at the four meal times of the day, and we have a respite service for carers requiring support to care for their loved ones.

  • CARING FOR FRAIL ELDERLY IN BED

NUTRITIONAL CARE:

  • PROVISION OF: MEALS
  • SPECIAL DIET
  • SNACKS
  • DRINKS /SUPPLEMENTS
  • ASSISTANCE TO EAT AND DRINK
  • SAFE FOOD HANDLING/STORAGE

PRACTICAL CARE

  • WASHING DISHES
  • MAKING BED
  • EMPTYING COMMODE

RESPITE CARE

Respite services are available for carers and can be arranged to suit your requirements:

  • Day time sit service
  • Waking night service
  • Night time sit service

Risk activity which is not carried out by Link CC staff

  • Performing Catheterisation
  • Giving injections
  • Administering suppositories or enemas
  • Ear syringing
  • Cutting nails (Diabetic clients)
  • Lifting or moving heavy furniture or such items
  • Lifting a client who has fallen; care workers must seek medical help and remain with the service user ensuring they are warm and reassured until help arrives.

We do not allocate services or extend existing services; this is carried out by the Trust representative (Care Manager).

Administration

  • To ensure adequate records are maintained, and necessary reports, including untoward/incidents, are produced.
  • To have sound knowledge of the standards and specifications of the organisation to ensure a quality service.

Meetings and Training

  • To attend regular staff meetings to review and plan work.
  • To participate in a formal programme of supervision.
  • To participate in in-service training and external courses deemed to be essential to carrying out the duties of the post, in order to be competent in handling/responding to particular needs of the client group.

Policies & Procedures

  • To have an awareness of all policies and procedures relevant to the post including Vulnerable Adult Policy.
  • Reporting to senior staff any unusual behaviour or deterioration in the health of service users.
  • Reporting any untoward incidents and complaints.
  • Reporting any identified risk to clients, their homes, or to staff.

Health & Safety

  • To be aware of and act in accordance with Link Community Care Health & Safety Policy.
  • To conduct all activities in a manner which is safe to yourself and others.
