We are seeking a proactive, organised, and committed Attendance Officer to join our mainstream school in the NG2 area. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, working closely with pupils, families, school staff, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure all pupils are fully supported to access education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily pupil attendance and punctuality, ensuring accurate and timely record keeping
  • Identify patterns of absence or persistent absenteeism and take appropriate action
  • Contact parents/carers regarding absences, lateness, and attendance concerns
  • Work closely with pastoral staff, safeguarding teams, and senior leaders to support pupils at risk of poor attendance
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve attendance across the school
  • Conduct meetings with parents/carers to address attendance issues and agree support plans
  • Maintain detailed attendance records and prepare reports for school leadership and external agencies
  • Liaise with the Local Authority, Education Welfare Officers, and other relevant services as required
  • Support school policies in line with attendance legislation and statutory guidance

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Previous experience in an attendance, pastoral, or administrative role within a school or similar setting
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • Good understanding of attendance legislation and safeguarding responsibilities
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a mainstream school environment
  • Knowledge of SIMS, Arbor, or other school management systems
  • Experience working with external agencies or the Local Authority
