Responsibilities

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Organise and provide a stimulating play rich environment both inside and outside, where resources can be accessed by all children and varied activities meet the needs of the children.
  • To liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure the settings Safeguarding Policy is adhered to.
  • Ensure you are fully aware of all welfare requirements, and that all procedures for child protection and safeguarding are understood and effectively implemented.
  • Be responsible for identifying and referring concerns to the SENCO to support children with additional needs.
  • Communicate with outside agencies where needed.
  • Set high standards for the room taking into consideration the implementation of the nursery policies.
  • Regularly reflect on your team's practice and make improvements where necessary.
  • Create an age appropriate, enabling environment, taking into consideration the layout, activities, resources.
  • Ensure the environment is kept tidy, clean, and safe.
  • All children and parents are welcomed and have a sense of belonging.
  • Build a professional relationship with the parents, starting with the trial sessions, and creating a bond with key children.
  • Liaise with the parents on a daily basis verbally and via the app.
  • Have a good understanding of all children in the room, making sure you know individual routines, needs, the level of development, interests, and personal background.
  • Work with parents to ensure children’s individual needs are met, completing starting points, transition tracking, and additional monitoring when needed.
  • Support your team to ensure this is implemented for all children.
  • Take responsibility for signing children in and out on the Famly App.
  • Ensure regular head counts are completed and know how many children are always in your care.
  • Keep appropriate, accurate and efficient records on the child’s Famly profile on a daily basis.
  • Effectively communicate, delegate, organise and deploy the team to ensure high quality teamwork in the room manager's absence.
  • Be a role model for less experienced staff and volunteers.
  • Engage with training and meetings to enhance your practice and keep your knowledge up to date.
  • Reflect and highlight any weak areas for development within your room.
  • Actively engage in weekly management meetings cascading and implementing any relevant changes in the room manager's absence.
  • Engage and reflect in supervisions of own performance.
